A Letter to Parents and Taxpayers: DEI is ALIVE AND WELL IN WALLED LAKE

DEI Lesson Plan

So that you may be aware, this is what hundreds of our students were told during their school day last week: “Our country is becoming increasingly diverse in many ways, but the books we read, the television and movies we watch, and the games we play do not reflect that diversity.”

Then students were asked to complete a questionnaire and turn it in. Regarding a TV show they like, watch, or know about, Question #3 reads: “Name the main and secondary characters and their identity group characteristics such as race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability/disability, religion, socioeconomic status, etc.”

The insinuation is clear: Students, if you are not choosing to read books, watch shows, and play games with characters who identify with the transgender agenda, you are not diverse enough. DEI is ALIVE in Walled Lake!

But students and parents can see through this veiled attempt to propagandize minors. And we resent your insinuation and reject your premise

If someone has diversity of opinion with the transgender idea that men can become women and women can become men, or that biological men should be in women’s sports and private spaces, that is biology, not bigotry.

DEI Lesson Worksheet

If a TV show is objectionable to parents because it is contrary to their morals, why is diversity of opinion not tolerated by those who profess inclusivity? In addition, is this not a breech of Executive Order 14190 “Ending Radical Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling”?

It is not surprising that the transgender agenda is embedded among other things with which no one would has a problem, ie. race, ethnicity, gender, age, ability/disability, religion, socioeconomic status, etc. In so doing, if a student, parent, or citizen objects, they are immediately accused of being heartlessly against all of it.

For example, not surprising that the video that is shown first in class is a heartwarming clip about a blind, autistic musician. Obviously, anyone who sees this would only ever applaud this person.

In addition, because they name the program, “No place for hate,” the same holds true. If people object to an aspect of it, they are immediately slandered as being a hater.

What is the policy regarding extra-curricular programs during classroom hours? Who is responsible for bringing these programs into the schools? Even if the no-bullying intent was good, bringing in an outside program without giving parents its curriculum and a calendar of dates and times it will be presented, comes across as non-professional at best and suspect at worst.

Has anyone asked if everyone else is okay with this -parents as well as taxpayers? Or is this a pet project of someone in administration?

Are parents given with ample time to opt-out (having the materials, well ahead of time, to preview) if there is any part of it to which they object?

Where do all of the students’ completed sheets go? Who reads these? Even if they don’t include a name, what is done with all of this personal information?

Why is any program given the classroom time which should be used for the subjects that classroom time is meant to be used for?

Enough with indoctrination. Use every minute of classroom time to teach each subject, not ideology. Only then will our scores will improve and Walled Lake can move from our #27th spot in enrollment (with our decline of 1,519 students in the past 5 years) and start catching up to our neighbor down the street, Novi, which has actually grown in enrollment in the same time period.
